New Template
Originally, I started this practice blog because all I wanted to do was just learn how to add music videos to the side bar on the main page of one of the Blogger provided templates.
Once I got started making changes, however, I couldn’t stop!
I have to admit, even though I found HTML easier than I imagined, I still spent A LOT of time this last week on this template. Using one provided on the Spider-Man website as my framework saved a lot of time, but I still had to do a lot of work!
I had to add a “Previous Items” column to the side bar to show the last 10 published posts. I also had to add the code for “comments.”
I did A LOT more too, but I won’t complain because I can’t imagine having to start from scratch!!
Anyway, I’m glad I did it because I learned a lot and now have a weblog that’s more reflective of my personality.
One important thing I learned is, there’s no way in hell I could ever be a web page designer (or a computer programmer for that matter) because I don’t have the patience!
How do people sit in front of the pc all day for work?
I had to do that a lot at my old job as a “receiving clerk” and I forgot how much it felt like torture.
I swear, I’d rather dig ditches than sit at a pc all day for a living. At least you’re out in the sun and moving. Sure, your muscles might get sore occasionally from digging ditches, but I swear I get more aches and pains and feel stiff from sitting at the computer for too long.
I honestly don’t know how people can do computer jobs. God designed the body to move!!
Plus, from my experience, when you do a job that’s physical … it’s not just good for your body … but also good for your Soul. When you do physical jobs, when you leave for home, you leave your work at work.
It’s like physically working all day helps clear your mind … like you work out your frustrations and anxieties.
A desk job, on the other hand, is just the opposite. Not only do you suffer more physically because of the lack of physical activity, it also seems you take your job home with you. At least that’s the way it was in my case.
It’s like you have so much shit to do and get done and deadlines to meet and you’re constantly going over it in your mind trying to figure out the best way to get it all done.
Plus, finding your job tedious and boring doesn’t help.
It’s so, well ... tedious and boring to sit at a computer all day entering information for tons of merchandise. You have to enter the name, the size, the color, the weight, the class, and a couple dozen other things. What's really stupid is that a lot of the information is redundant.
I really enjoyed the days I got to unload trucks and move heavy boxes around.
I really didn’t care for counting all the items and matching them against the pack slips and purchase orders though. I preferred it, however, to sitting at the computer and entering all the information into the pc in order to create product descriptions, UPCs, and price labels.
I almost forgot about having to go through the price labels you printed out and making sure that they printed out right and in the right number. I swear, sometimes you’d have a roll longer than a football field.
Actually, one time when I was doing fishing gear (which included a million different lures), I bet there was at least a mile of labels I had to go through.
TORTURE!!!
Anyway, I’m really happy with the look of my new template. I’m still not ready to transfer it to my weblog just yet because I doubt that all the bugs are worked out of it. I have a feeling I’m going to have to tweak the “comment” section some more, but maybe not.
-crosses fingers-
I thought I would delete this weblog after I’m done, but I think I’ll keep it around for a while just in case I want to create more templates. It’s easier to try them out on this one since I only have a couple posts -- it doesn’t take as long to “republish.”
Anyway, I’m done for the day.
*By the way, if anyone wants to use this template, just let me know and I’ll e-mail it to you. If you’re as clueless as I was, I MAY (if I find the patience) even include an instruction sheet so you can change a few things … like the video and the “links.”
